NURSING as a career in Canada

Any nurse planning to work in Canada must be deemed as qualified to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed/Registered Practical Nurse (LPN/RPN).

To qualify, an applicant must register with either the Canadian Nurses Association (CAN) or the Canadian Council for Practical Nurse Regulators (CCPNR).

Nurses with international credentials may also seek permanent or temporary residency in Canada if they obtain a valid job offer and subsequent work permit..

Registered nurses (RN) provide direct care to patients, while licensed practical nurses (LPN) typically aid doctors or registered nurses. Licensure as a registered nurse is generally sought-after graduation from a 4-year undergraduate nursing program and successful completion of the NCLEX-RN. Clinical nurses are registered nurses, holding all the same responsibilities. However, the difference is that they have undertaken additional studies in a specialized area and have worked in that field for several years.

Both RNs and NPs provide care to patients, but there are distinct differences in their required education. Registered nurses may earn an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, while nurse practitioners must have at least a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.

A registered nurse (RN) is a nurse who holds a nursing diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), has passed the NCLEX-RN exam administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) and has met all the other licensing requirements mandated by their state’s board of nursing.

Internationally educated and experienced nurses who have already obtained a diploma and who practice outside Canada will need to take a Transition course or Bridging Programs for registration in nursing. These programs will provide you with the clinical experience and knowledge necessary to meet the “proof of practice requirements” established by regulatory bodies.

Upon completion of the Transition program, a ‘course’ completion’ verification will be forwarded to the regulatory body as proof of practice and eligibility. .

Benefits of the Transition Course

Any type of Transition course is necessary to start with nursing practice in Canada. With it, you will receive a recognized certificate attesting that you are eligible to work as a nurse practitioner. You will also gain experience in a typical Canadian hospital setting..

You will learn to participate effectively as a team member and to support customers. It gives you the opportunity to practice professionally within the legislative and ethical framework. It is essential to communicate effectively with clients and members of the health care team, to develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients, you must acquire all these skills .
